A New & Exciting Audio Adventure from Yazaki-san: The iPhone Adventure!

03-01-2024 | By Jeff Day |

Alan-san Cheers Our iPhone Adventure!

Alan-san, who has appeared in my articles here on Jeff’s Place many times over the years, looked back on the past year and a half of traveling together with me on the road of our iPhone Adventure, and summarized it for me (below).

Thankfully, it was a letter of kind encouragement for me, and I would like to share it with you to begin our iPhone Adventure.

For me, the encouragement and support of kindred spirits like Alan-san gives me the courage and strength to move forward. I’m the one who should be grateful.

Alan-san said, “What wonderful Adventures I have experienced these past few years with my dear friend and Real Sound mentor, Yazaki-san. In early October 2022, we were blessed to have a visit in our home from Yazaki-san. The visit allowed us to spend time in fellowship, laughter, and sharing a unique and wonderful time exploring new Real Sound avenues, Music Adventures, and life."

"The two of us spent hours, I was mostly, well always, the student observing Yazaki-san, making modifications to the Hashimoto and Tango PX25 Mono SET amplifier circuits that were designed and built by himself for me years earlier. As my wife is fond to say, “Lucky us!”"

"We had a wonderful time rolling new tubes and trying different tube combinations to experience the effects of the amplifier circuit changes."

"There was an amazing, magical, and dynamic little RCA 5670 driven Douk Audio U4 USB DAC that Yazaki-san brought along with him. The Douk Audio U4 was a true surprise. We were able to have a delicious Real Sound experience with the U4 through a Wi-Fi connection with my Apple iPhone. Yes, an Apple iPhone! As my grandniece would describe it, we were in our happy place!"

"Sometime thereafter, I received a series of emails suggesting I try the WE 396A in the Douk Audio U4 to enhance the natural sound and timbre sound qualities of my audio system. Then came a magical suggestion, try the delicate Brimar E88CC, which was sublime."

"While Yazaki-san was visiting, during a phone call, he introduced me to his dear friend, the gentle, talented, and gifted Honda-san. We had a lovely conversation - another kindred spirit."

"A little later, Yazaki-san and Honda-san collaborated on making modifications to the original circuitry of the Douk Audio U4 mini USB DAC and came up with a Yazaki-san hot-rodded version, a supercharged Real-Sound version of the U4 (below)."

"Here is an amazing performer that seamlessly allows a view into a different-in-kind, tangible, and musical listening experiences. I both appreciate and am very grateful of their desire to share the iPhone Adventure that has brought many hours of much musical happiness and joy to my life. Thank you so much Yazaki-san, Honda-san and the ever-loyal Nico-chan.”
