McKinnon Furniture in Seattle is one of my favorite stores for buying hand-made furniture & equipment stands and cabinets in the entire world. All of the furniture is made the old fashioned way, from scratch, beautifully conceived, and they'll do custom designs and let you pick the wood.
I've needed a new equipment rack for quite a while, and I just never got around to making it happen until now. I wanted something sized specifically for the vintage McIntosh gear I've been enjoying so much lately.
First I wanted my equipment stand to be built out of walnut to match my Westminster Royal Special Edition loudspeakers, and the West's outboard walnut Duelund CAST crossovers.
I also wanted an open architecture design with low height so it would be easy to hook-up & change equipment for reviews, and with a minimum footprint to minimize any sonic impact from placing it between my WRSE loudspeakers.
I wanted my Mac rack to be just big enough on top for my vintage McIntosh MX110Z and VPI Classic turntable, with just enough space on the bottom for a pair of vintage McIntosh MC30 mono amplifiers, which would leave plenty of space for my vintage McIntosh MC225 & MC240 stereo amplifiers when they were playing the tunes.
Here's something else: When I installed all my equipment on the McKinnon Mac Rack, I was impressed with the natural sound when playing music that resulted from placing all my vintage Mac gear on the solid walnut rack.
Let me say a big "Thank you!" to Shaun at McKinnon for helping me design the rack for my vintage Mac gear, and to Karinne for the great service when I picked the Mac rack up at the McKinnon wood shop in Seattle. Thank you!
