After hitting it out of the ballpark with The Robusto, Mark Coles has been busy in his laboratory designing a second AC power cord for the Sablon Audio lineup, the Gran Corona, which has just been announced as being available in a press release from Mark:
"As promised a few weeks back, I'm delighted to announce the launch of Gran Corona, our new statement power cord.
This design preserves the good aspects of Robusto but takes the performance onto an even higher level with a more neutral and balanced presentation. You will hear greater extension in both bass and treble, a larger soundstage and a LOT more detail. The voicing is on the slightly warm side of neutral and, if anything, it's even more musical! Full details are now shown on our website, www.sablonaudio.com.
Gran Corona is priced at $850, subject to the customary 10% discount for repeat / multiple orders. As a special thank you to my original Robusto customers, I'm pleased to offer them a 15% discount for orders placed before the end of July."
I've got the Gran Corona in my review system now and will be writing about it in the not too distant future for Positive Feedback Online.
One of the things I have found to be intriguing about the Sablon Audio Gran Corona is that it incorporates passive AC conditioning much in the same way the Acoustic Revive RAS-14 ($1295 USD, in for review at PFO now as well) attachment for a power cord does. So in effect, you get both an AC 'super cord' and passive AC conditioner in the Gran Corona for $850 USD, which is pretty darn impressive, as the Acoustic Revive RAS-14 plus an Acoustic Revive Power Reference AC cord will set you back about $2000 USD.
In the photo below you can see the Sablon Audio Gran Corona & The Robusto, and the Acoustic Revive Power Reference power cords. The Gran Corona is the AC cord that goes from the wall outlet to the front of the Acoustic Revive RPT-2 Ultimate Power Distributor - yes the Gran Corona is huge! Plugged into the top of the RPT-2 are 2 The Robusto AC cords that are feeding the Sophia Electric 300B mono amps, and the smaller cords you see are the AR Power Reference AC cords.
From another angle:
I'll keep you posted as I get more familiar with the performance of these 3 super cords in relation to each other. Happy listening, and thanks for stopping by!
