Today's Fresh Catch are the Duelund CAST Copper & Silver Autotransformers for the Duelund-WRSE Project that all of you have been waiting for more information about.
I am very happy to report that today a pair each of Duelund CAST copper and silver autotransformers have arrived from Frederik Carøe in Denmark - thank you Frederik!
I was so excited to see them I snapped a photo of them still in their shipping wrappings!
Below is a close-up of the pair of Duelund CAST Silver Autotransformers for the Duelund Westminster Royal SE external crossovers (notice the silver leads):
Here's a close-up of the Duelund CAST Copper Autotransformers for the Westminsters (below, note the copper leads):
Below you can see the Duelund CAST Copper Autotransformer next to the stock Tannoy autotransformer.
Here's another view:
I installed a Duelund Copper CAST Autotransformer into the right channel. The leads weren't quite long enough to install it sitting in an upright position, so I laid it over on its side to insert the leads into the copper set-screw lugs.
Another angle:
Here's a close-up:
With the Duelund CAST Copper Autotransformer installed in the right channel there was an immediate improvement in overall tonality, with a more natural and richer presentation, with more of a sense of space, more vivid imaging, more presence and body to images ... and ... well ... it is a huge improvement! That's just after listening for a couple of minutes, but suffice it to say that this is another no-brainer of an upgrade. As I have a chance to listen a little more I'll report back with more detailed observations.
You'd think by now that I would have become more used to the profound performance of these Duelund CAST components compared to commercially available components, but they continue to catch me by surprise! Now I'm going to have to get the Duelund CAST Copper Autotransformer installed into the left channel and listen to the full effect.
I'll have a lot more to say about these in the near future, but I wanted you to be able to see the photos as soon as possible - they're beautiful!
Stay tuned for more soon!
