Today's Fresh Catch: Antonio Vivaldi - Le Quattro Stagioni on AudioNautes Recordings

10-08-2013 | By Jeff Day |

The Acoustic Sounds website says this recording of Antonio Vivaldi's Le Quattro Stagioni with Giuliano Carmignola on violin is one of the 10 best recordings of the last century, and after listening to it tonight I don't doubt it.

Antonio Vivaldi - AudioNautes Recordings

Here's a formula for success: pick one of the 10 greatest recordings of the past century, remaster it using the original master tapes, then have Stan Ricker press it on two 45 rpm 180gram LPs.

You might sniff at the fact that the original master recording is a DAT, and balk at the price of $65 USD. I did, but I decided to throw caution to the wind and buy it anyways, and I'm really glad I did. Check out Michael Fremer's review of this album on his Analog Planet blog here.

Antonio Vivaldi - back cover

This is one terrific album and I've been listening to it over and over again tonight, and I am in awe of the musicianship displayed and the superb tone & sound. I'll definitely be buying the next title AudioNautes Recordings releases!

Antonio Vivaldi - tt & Mac

Well its turning out to be a very nice evening here, with the glow of tubes from vintage McIntosh, a turntable spinning a great record, sipping a nice glass of wine, and the big Westminsters letting the music flow out like a river.

From my home to yours, may the music playing light up your life!
