Single Ended Triode (SET) Review Opportunity!

03-25-2019 | By Jeff Day |

Those of you who have been reading along here at Jeff's Place know I've been having a blast with my modest collection of vintage Altec loudspeakers.

The custom Altec's made for conductor Leopold Stokowski.

The vintage Altec-Lansing A5 Voice of the Theatre project loudspeakers as restored by Gary Fischer.

Vintage Altec 832A Corona loudspeakers that I purchased from LA Jazz Audio.

With my Westminster's I lost interest in SET's for a while as they need a little more power than most SET's can muster, but now with my Altec's SET friendly sensitivity I'd like to start exploring the magic of SET amplification once again, and telling you all about it.

The beautiful Fi 300B amplifier by Don Garber.

Over the years I've owned a number of Don Garber's wonderful SET amplifiers, like his 2A3 monos, and the 300B monos (above).

I also enjoyed my Sophia Electric 300B monaural amps, my Cary 805C mono amps way back when, as well as writing about the wonderful little Yamamoto Sound Craft 45 stereo amplifier and the Shindo Cortese F2A.

If you build or sell SET integrated amplifiers, stereo amplifiers, or monaural amplifiers that you'd like to have an article written about, please let me know, and I'll get you on the schedule.

I know a lot of you have been asking me to start writing about SET's again, and now's the time!

Check out the "Requesting a Review" page HERE for more information if you're interested in finding out more about the review process.

As always, thanks for stopping by, and may the tone be with you!
