Photos from an Ordinary Day

04-18-2010 | By Jeff Day |

I suppose that my post title, Photos from an Ordinary Day, could equally apply to me, the ordinary Jeff Day, or the fact that they were taken on an ordinary day in the life of yours truly - both are correct.

On the way to work last Thursday morning at 6AM the sunrise coming down the hill from where I live was really spectacular. I decided to stop and snap a photo with the Leica M9 & SEM 18/3.8 combination. A nice start to an ordinary work day.

After arriving at work the light in the parking lot from the sunrise was really remarkable the way it provided back-lighting for the trees, so again another photo was snapped. Another nice start to in ordinary day. It's amazing the beauty that surrounds us daily that largely goes unnoticed, but it's there if you look for it. Shot with the Leica M9 and SEM 18/3.8 combination.

The next morning I had the day off and had to make a trip to the post office, which seemed like a perfect opportunity to go for a walk along the Columbia River. The light was strange with the sky a whitish-gray haze that reflected off the water nicely, giving the interesting photo below. Shot with a Leica M9 and Elmarit 90/2.8 lens.

Here's one more for an early morning boater from a little further up river. Shot with a Leica M9 and Elmarit 90/2.8 combination.

Walking back to the car I came across a nice little art gallery that I had never visited, so I stopped in to look around.

No photos allowed inside of course, but the window outside was full of beautiful hand blown glass. Leica M9 with Voigtlander Nokton 50/1.1 lens.

It's really easy for me to go through the ordinary days and because of the routine and forget to notice the beauty all around me, so I'm going to try to do better in that regard, to watch for the beauty in the ordinary things of life.
