It is another early morning of sipping coffee while listening to the custom vintage Voice of the Theatre loudspeakers that were built for Leopold Stokowski back when he lived in New York, before he moved back to London permanently.
There's just something magically musical about the combination of the SPEC RSA-M3 EX Real Sound Amplifier and the Maestro's VOTTs.
This system is continuing to slowly evolve, and needless to say, I am thrilled with the results. I rearranged a bit and put my walnut McKinnon Bellevue media cabinet (now called the Anacortes) that I was using for record storage in my living room into the system.
On the wire front, I'm using Western Electric WE16GA for speaker cables, the Belden 8402 microphone cable for interconnects, and my DIY 'Vintage Tone' pushback wire USB cable for my Mhdt Paradisea+ USB DAC.
With the McKinnon cabinet I had to forgo the use of the excellent Sablon Audio power cable on the SPEC RSA-M3 EX Real Sound Amplifier, because the Sablon was too stiff to route through the cabinet. I'll have to cut out some of the wood in the back of the cabinet to be able to use it, so until that happens I'm using the stock power cord that came with the SPEC, which actually sounds pretty good (but not as good as the Sablon).
In other news, my vintage A5 Voice of the Theatre loudspeakers that are undergoing restoration, are done, and are being prepared for shipping right now. I'm really excited to give them a listen based on what I'm hearing from the Maestro's VOTTs. I'll be telling you all about the A5's in due time.
Also, I installed some generic Belden 18-gauge power cords from Yves (Thank you!) onto my vintage McIntosh MC30 monaural amplifiers, which really brought them back to sounding like I want them to. My experiments with Belden 19364 14AWG and WE16GA as power cables on the MC30s were a flop. The Belden 19364 14AWG sounded reasonably good on the MC30s, but resulted in excessive bass that threw the sound of the Westminster system out of balance. The WE16GA sounded really good in some ways, but the upper midrange was a little too forward/direct sounding with the WRSEs. The skinny little 18-gauge Belden power cords turned out to be just right. I conditioned the Belden 18GA power cords for a week on the Cable Cooker before soldering them in place.
That's all for now, thanks for stopping by!
