It's a Duelund Coherent Audio sort of Saturday morning!

10-22-2016 | By Jeff Day |

This weekend I'm really focused in on Duelund Coherent Audio.

First of all, I'm writing like a crazy-man this weekend to get a feature article written about the Duelund Coherent Audio DCA16GA tinned-copper 'vintage tone' wire for the upcoming November-December issue of Positive Feedback.

The main reason I want to get the DCA16GA wire into the November-December issue of Positive Feedback is that would allow me to nominate it for a Writers' Choice Award for 2016 (instead of having to wait until 2017), which it surely deserves to recognize the terrific accomplishment and contribution to the audio arts that Frederik has made by making the DCA16GA tinned-copper wire available.

I'm also planning on including DCA16GA interconnects in that discussion, both the DIY pair I made to go from my vintage McIntosh MX110Z tuner-preamplifier to my vintage McIntosh MC30 monaural amplifiers, as well as the different sets of shielded DCA16GA interconnects that Chris at Parts ConneXion made up for me to try with my Intact Audio custom SUT that I use with my Ortofon SPU Classic GM MkII phono cartridge, so it should be a fun read!

The DCA16GA article for Positive Feedback will also give me a chance to introduce the Duelund RCA's. The Duelund RCA’a are available as rhodium or gold over OCC copper, and they use a natural fiber (compressed paper) outer shell like the outer form of the Duelund CAST capacitors (natural for the gold, and black for the rhodium).

I find the gold with the natural outer shell to be particularly beautiful, although the rhodium/black combination is very classy too.

Did I mention that Chris at Parts ConneXion will make up pairs of shielded or unshielded Duelund DCA16GA RCA interconnects for you if you ask him nicely?

I know that's a prayer answered for those of you who can't (or don't want to) do the soldering yourselves.

Duelund RCA's!

Duelund RCA's!

My morning started with two emails, the first from Frederik at Duelund Coherent Audio in Denmark, and the second from Chris at Parts ConneXion in Canada.

Frederik is continuing to unmercifully tease me with a 'surprise' he is sending me to try, by sending me photos from various stages of fabrication as clues to the identity of the surprise! I don't have the slightest idea of what the surprise could be!

What fun! 🙂

Clue 2 from Frederik on the 'surprise' he has made. I don't have a clue! ;-)

Clue 3 from Frederik.

Clue 3: Such sweet torture!

My morning email from Frederik included a FedEx tracking number for the finished surprise that is now winging its way towards me, and should be here on Monday.

I just checked, and the Duelund surprise is making a stop at De Gaulle in Paris at the moment, getting ready for its flight to Jeff's Place.

I'm all smiles! 🙂

My second email was from Chris at Parts ConneXion in Canada, checking in to see how the listening survey was going for the medley of Duelund interconnects he made up for me to try.

Thanks again to Chris for going to the time & expense for making up these sets of Duelund interconnects constructed with various types of Duelund wire, and some with shielding so I could try them with my Intact Audio SUTs.

After getting them, I ran through all of them in one sitting for a quick listen, but decided they each needed some time on my Cable Cooker for conditioning. I experimented with conditioning time, but 4 days seems to be optimum for most of them. They're all done now, so it is time to start going through them again.

I have the DCA16GA interconnects that Chris made (with the shield connected at the source end), connected to my Intact Audio SUT's, back in the system after four days of conditioning on the Cable Cooker, and it is sounding really, really, good. The four days of conditioning on the Cable Cooker was a revelation in their performance from the raw state!

I'm thinking that a full Duelund interconnect survey would make a nice follow-up article to my DCA16GA article for Positive Feedback.

Ok, it's back to writing on the DCA16GA article for Positive Feedback me, as I've got to get cracking if I'm going to get it done for the November-December issue!

As always, thanks for stopping by, and may the tone be with you!
