Fotografie: Wandering through Holland

08-18-2012 | By Jeff Day |

While I was looking at Danny Bar's superb photos it occurred to me what a lousy job I've been doing at posting my own photos over the last few years. I've taken thousands of photos all over the world but it seems like I'm always running so short on time that I don't get my photos up in a timely fashion (don't worry, I won't post all of them!).

So anyways, here's a few photos from some recent travel that I thought were kind of fun. Some of the photos were taken with my Leica M9 combined with a Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1 lens, and others with my iPhone 4S. Can you tell which ones are which? (You can click on the photos for larger versions.)

This young lady was a greeter at Keukenhof Gardens in Holland and she was dressed in traditional Dutch clothes. She recognized my blacked-out Leica M9 hanging around my neck, which impressed me, that's the first time that's happened when I've been out shooting photos!

I really like Holland and the Dutch people. I could imagine living there and loving it should the opportunity ever arise. Below is a street sculpture scene that was right out in front of the Ambassador City Center Hotel in Haarlem where I stayed while in Holland.

This is Yodi who showed us around Haarlem and explained about the old symbols set into the cobblestones in front of the shops that symbolized what the shop's business was. You can see at Yodi's feet the upper part of a balance ...

I thought I was seeing double at dinner, as there appeared to be two Yodi's, but rather it was Yodi's twin sister serving us a delicious meal.

Another thing that I think is so cool about the Dutch is that they love bicycles (like I do), and you can ride everywhere in safety on bike paths. Way cool!

Cool old cathedral. And bikes. Everywhere!

Another cool thing about the Dutch is they love flowers (and so do I) ... like the Amsterdam scene below ... flowers are everywhere! Very cool!

I also loved the canals in Haarlem and Amsterdam.

The Dutch also have great beer!

Street jazz in Amsterdam. I love jazz!

The flower market in Amsterdam.

Ok, I totally forget where this was in Amsterdam, but thought it was a pretty cool courtyard.

Here's a black & white shot from the entrance at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, just before the guide told me to put the camera away because photography was not allowed inside.

The End.
