I just heard about the recently released line of Duelund RS capacitors, which I had totally missed because I was so engrossed in writing the Duelund-WRSE Project Part 2 article for Positive Feedback Online.
I'll try to find out more about the recently released line of Duelund RS capacitors from Frederik (a future interview perhaps?), but in the meantime check out this great capacitor comparison article at Humble Homemade HiFi in the Netherlands.
Humble Homemade HiFi has done an awesome capacitor survey article spanning quite a few years, and it is a tremendous resource for everyone interested in upgrading the capacitors in their crossovers or components. Their article gets updated every time they add new capacitors to their lineup of reviewed capacitors, and in the case of the new Duelund RS capacitors, they were added in April 2014.
It probably will not surprise anyone who has read the Duelund-WRSE articles (Part 1 & Part 2) in Positive Feedback Online, but the top-of-the-line Duelund CAST capacitors we used in those articles took top honors for sound quality of all the capacitors reviewed by Humble Homemade HiFi. What is really impressive is that the new Duelund RS capacitors came in a very close second place in Humble Homemade HiFi's review ranking. That's very big news, because the RS line comes in at around half the price of the top-of-the-line CAST capacitors, and thus the reference to 'Fanfare for the Common Man' in the title of this post.
When Aaron Copland wrote Fanfare for the Common Man in 1942, it was allegedly inspired by the speech given by American President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Vice President, Henry A. Wallace, titled Century of the Common Man where he presented a wartime vision of social justice (albeit a bit dated to read now).
I know Frederik has been wanting to offer something that approaches the top-of-the-line Duelund CAST performance, but is priced so that it is more accessible to more people. That's not easy to do when you're talking about something as labor intensive to produce as the Duelund CAST capacitors, but after "3 years in development, RS introduces the unmatched mechanical stability of the Duelund CAST technology combined with a size not much larger than standard capacitors."
I get asked all the time if there is a more cost effective way to upgrade crossovers than the Duelund CAST components, and until now I haven't really known what to recommend.
Now I do: The Duelund RS is Frederik's personal penning of a Fanfare for the Common Man in the form of capacitors.
I think that's really cool. I'll tell you more about the RS capacitors as I learn more, and hopefully I'll be able to get Frederik to tell us a little more about them as time permits.
Thanks for stopping by!
