It's been a great couple of days visiting with my nephew, Chris, and his daughter, Chloe, who travelled all the way from Arlington, Virginia, to visit Grandma Jaine & Uncle Jeff here in Washington State!
Left to right: Grandma Jaine, Chris, and Chloe, visiting at Grandma's apartment. You can just barely see part of Grandma Jaine's right channel speaker from her hi-fi rig in the far left side of the photo.
Grandma Jaine is 91 now, soon to be 92, and loves jazz and Robert Redford movies!
Grandma Jaine is Chris' Grandmother (and my Mom), and Chloe is Grandma Jaine's great granddaughter!
That was four generations of our family visiting together, so that was really cool!
Above, you can see Chloe standing next to one of my restored vintage Altec A5 Voice of the Theatre loudspeakers. The Altec A5 was first released in 1945, 71 years ago!
I'll be writing an article for Positive Feedback about these ancient loudspeakers that are refugees from a movie theatre - they're amazing!
We had a fun time listening to some equally ancient music on the Altec A5's, like Elvis Presley's Stereo 57, Dave Brubeck's Time Out, and Led Zeppelin's Led Zeppelin IV!
Above you can see Chris and Chloe standing next to another vintage pair of Altec loudspeakers, the custom Altec A7 loudspeakers that were made for conductor Leopold Stokowski when he was living in his Manhattan apartment and conducting the Symphony of the Air, just before he moved back to London.
Chloe is 7 years old, and she wants to be a scientist when she grows up!
We had a fun time exploring, visiting a museum, riding in my Nissan Leaf electric car, listening to music, talking about ancient science & technology, like vacuum tubes, big ol' movie theater loudspeakers, and vinyl playback, with a little modern science thrown in, like gravitational waves, and nuclear & particle physics. What fun!
Many thanks to Chris & Chloe for making the long trek out to visit Grandma Jaine & Uncle Jeff, we loved seeing you and visiting! We miss you already!
Ok, that's all for now from Jeff's Oddio Museum!
