Jimi Hendrix - Electric Ladyland

05-22-2010 | By Jeff Day |

I feel a certain affinity for Hendrix, with him having been a fellow Washington State resident, and wanted to get back in touch with his music. So a few weeks back I ordered a batch of records from Acoustic Sounds that included Jimi Hendrix's Electric Ladyland.

The version I ordered was the new special edition one mastered By George Marino at Sterling Sound, pressed on 180 gram vinyl.

A lot of people consider this 2 LP set to be Hendrix's greatest album, and it's easy to see why. I just finished listening to Voodoo Child (Slight Return) on my VPI Classic turntable tonight, and it really blew my mind.  The music is just amazing, with Hendrix's guitar playing just stunning.

During Voodoo Child the guitar tone is just stunning (I know, I'm saying 'stunning' every other word, but man it is!) - classic distorted rock guitar, and it is flying all over the place, from wall to wall in my listening room. The soundstage is huge and completely fills up my listening/living room, and is really an amazing experience through the big Tannoy Westminster Royals SEs. The music is great, the sound is great, so this album is a real treat. If you're a Hendrix fan don't miss this one, it's a winner!
