Panicos Checking in from Cyprus: New Valve Order News!

05-20-2013 | By Jeff Day |

It's no secret that I really like the New Valve Order SPA-II phono equalizer and have been using it as my reference, and as I posted earlier, I have the new entry level SPA One in for review (below), and from what I'm hearing it promises to be something special as well.

Panicos told me that the SPA one now incorporates more decoupling of the mother board from the chassis which improves its resistance to vibration that could cause tube microphonics.

In addition to the new SPA one (above), Panicos told me that there is a new & upgraded SPA-II2 coming, as well as a SPA Reference that will be coming by the end of the year.

Panicos told me, "The new SPA-II2 has some cosmetic changes , namely three toggle switches instead of the original push buttons, in a new arrangement on the front plate. It will also have the new wide cathode follower output circuit that has lowered the output impedance by 5-6 times compared to the original circuit. This has resulted in a much more transparent and refined sound, more effortless dynamics and a more 3-D soundstage. The mother board of the SPA-II2 will also be decoupled from the chassis , like the SPA One. A drawing of the new front plate of the SPA-II2 is attached (below),showing the 3 toggles in the new arrangement."

"I can give you now a first drawing on how we expect the forthcoming SPA Reference will look (below). Based largely on the proven circuit of the SPA-II2, the Reference will include the new wide cathode follower output circuit and upgraded components (resistors & capacitors) in the critical signal path."

Panicos also tells me there is a new NVO Integrated Amplifier coming before long: "The NVO Integrated Amplifier prototype is now available in the final form, and we are working on the final details of the enclosure. It will most probably look like the SPA Reference, only bigger. It is an all tube amplifier of 100W/channel and the ability to drive quite difficult speaker loads. It is big, heavy, and it sounds great!"

This is good news for music lovers, for the designs of Andreas Hadjiminas, working out of Nicosia, Cyprus, are very special indeed!
