Duelund - WRSE Project: The Duelund Coherent Audio Components Arrive from Denmark! Shock and Awe!

04-15-2013 | By Jeff Day |

I got a message from FedEx this morning notifying me the Duelund Coherent Audio components from Frederik Carøe - the founder of Duelund Coherent Audio - for the Duelund / Westminster Royal Special Edition Project had arrived and were being held for pickup. I had a little break from meetings in the office so I went straight down and picked up the shipping container. Yes, shipping container. The shipping container with the Duelund components to upgrade the Westminster Royal SE crossover weighed over 40 pounds! My curiosity was definitely piqued and I could hardly wait for the work day to end so I could get home and unpack the Duelund components.

Inside the shipping container were four other boxes containing the carefully packed Duelund parts for the crossover project.

As I unpacked the Duelund components that Frederik sent and started laying them out on my cabinet top I realized that Frederik had not only sent the parts for the high-frequency section of the crossover (what we'd planned to do for the upgrade project), he'd also sent components for the low-frequency section of the crossover (which we hadn't planned on)!

Frederik you completely blew my mind with all those Duelund components! Wow! Thank you for making this project so exciting!

Duelund XO components 3

Starting from the left of the cabinet and going towards the middle you can see all of the Duelund components for the high-frequency section of the WRSE crossover: a pair of 6.8 uF CAST capacitors, a pair of 3.3 uF CAST capacitors, and a pair of 2.2 uF CAST capacitors. Down the middle between the capacitors you can see the Duelund 22R, 10R, and 47R carbon/silver resistors that are going to be used in the crossover. I'll do some closeup photos of each of the components in a future post.

If you look at the center of the cabinet and go right you see the components for the low-frequency section of the crossover: the big set of capacitors in the middle of the cabinet are 20 uF, next to them on the right are a set of 4 mH inductors, and the final inductors to the right are 1 mH. You can't really see it in the photo but there is also a pair of 4R7 carbon/silver resistors.

That gives us all the components we need to finish the low-frequency section of the crossover except for a 200 uF capacitor and a 1R0 resistor, and I'll ask Frederik what he'd recommend for those pieces that would be complementary to the Duelund components.

These Duelund components from Frederik Carøe are blowing my mind! The quality is incredible, and the size & weight are astonishing!

Frederik's Duelund Coherent Audio makes the finest audio capacitors, inductors, and resistors in the world, and I'll be interviewing Frederik about each of these components so I can give you a full description of what goes into making them and why they are so special.

I want to thank Frederik for providing the Duelund components for what is now known as the Duelund - WRSE Project, he has made this project unbelievably exciting!

I hope this little teaser post gets you excited about the Duelund - WRSE Project, I know I'm almost beside myself with excitement to proceed with the project.

There will be much, much, more coming! Thanks for stopping by!
