I just got home from traveling in Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, and France for three weeks, which is why I've been a little thin on posts lately.
As you would expect, by the time I got home from travel I was in great need of a vinyl fix, so I ordered up a batch of LPs from Acoustic Sounds, which for those of you who have been following my blog for a while, know that it is one of my favorite places to shop for vinyl. I'll let you know which of the LPs I bought are really good and worth getting as I go through them.
Here's the first winner: Very Tall with the Oscar Peterson Trio with Milt Jackson on the Speakers Corner Records label. The music is fantastic, and Speakers Corner continues to do a fantastic job on their reissues. In fact I think Speakers Corner Records does a better job on reissues than any other label out there right now (with the possible exception of Analogue Productions who is doing some great work too).
Very Tall features Oscar Peterson on piano, Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Ray Brown on bass, and Ed Thigpen on drums. With musical gods like Oscar, Milt, Ray, and Ed, you expect the music is going to be fantastic, and it is truly fantastic. It's always a treat for me to hear Milt Jackson on vibes and he's in fine form on Very Tall. The LP has rich, warm, detailed, and dimensional sound that is just a treat both musically and sonically. Highly recommended!
