Today's Fresh Catch: The Sablon Audio Panatela 2012 Interconnect

03-02-2012 | By Jeff Day |

Today's Fresh Catch is Mark's new 2012 version of the Panatela interconnect. I've been listening to the Panatela 2012 for a little while now and I'm really impressed. As you know, I wrote about how the original version of the Panatela pretty much blew me away (PFO Issue 56), it's one heck of a great interconnect. The same thing happened to me all over again listening to the Panatela 2012 - it rocks!

Here's Mark's press release:

Dear All,

I was planning to write one of my quarterly newsletters shortly but wanted to give you a 'breaking news' heads-up on some recent and significant enhancements to Panatela.

Not unlike Virginia Woolf's quote on idleness and dreams, inspiration came to me whilst toying around with ideas for a digital cable a few weeks ago. Admittedly this is supposedly a technically rather different beast, however ignoring the usual strictures about 75ohms impedance and shielding produced a prototype with some rather pleasing qualities. This begat my replicating these ideas into the analogue interconnect and having a bit of a Meg Ryan moment when I first heard it. I should mention that I'm neither easily impressed nor prone to hyperbole and the feedback from other critical 'ears' has been similarly excited - "incredibly good", "fantastic" and "champion".

Compared to the original Panatela, there is now a much clearer and better defined presentation with more vigorous dynamics. It's an altogether more lively and musical design. The noise-floor is even lower, yielding more palpable detail and air, yet the achievements of the original design remain undiluted. Could this be one to delight all the reviewers?!? Time will tell as examples have now been sent to five well respected online publications for their evaluation.

Although the degree of improvement is really rather impressive, I have been able to keep the price unchanged. A full rebuild service is available for the original Panatela, with concessionary rates for Sablon customers. Those who bought their Panatelas during February will be upgraded free of charge.

Should you wish to have a listen to a demo cable before deciding, then please let me know as I am presently refreshing the demonstration boxes in circulation around USA. Inevitably some original models will become available for sale, should anyone be interested, and these can always be updated at a future date.

Best wishes

Mark

I'll have much more to say about the Panatela 2012 in the future, but suffice it to say that I'm given you a heads up in advance that this is a really terrific interconnect, one of the little benefits of stopping by Jeff's Place.
